The Certified Dental Assistant/Scheduler assists the Dentist in the treatment and care of dental patients and assists in educating patients about oral hygiene. They perform a variety of patient care and laboratory duties and work chair side as the Dentist examines and treats patients. The Certified Dental Assistant/Scheduler prepares the patient for treatment and obtains their dental records. This person also provides hand instruments and materials for the Dentist to use in patient care. The Certified Dental Assistant/Scheduler is responsible for the organization and maintenance of equipment, instruments and supplies. They perform proper sterilization techniques, preparing trays of instruments for dental procedures, and instructing patients on postoperative instructions and general oral health care. This person prepares materials for impressions and restorations, takes dental x-rays, and processes x-ray film as directed by the Dentist. They also are responsible for administering the day-to-day activities of the office including; answering phone calls, managing the computer software system, and accessing patients’ records. Scheduling patients’ appointments and working accounts receivable and payable are responsibilities of the Certified Dental Assistant/Scheduler, also.
Education/Work Experience
• High School Diploma or GED required
• 1-3 years experience as a Certified Dental Assistant preferred
• Experience with oral surgery and pediatrics
Licenses/Certifications
• Current CPR Certification required
• DANB Certified Dental Assistant Certification required
• Expanded Functions Dental Assistant (EFDA) preferred
• Registered with the Arkansas State Board of Dental Examiners (ASBDE)
