2024 DAISY Award Ceremony

5-8-24 (Lake Village, AR) –Jennifer Lockett, RN and Zoe Hackett, RN of Chicot Memorial Medical Center were recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses and The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award, respectively. The awards are part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.

The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses nomination submitted for Jennifer Lockett, RN read “My mother is there, and Jennifer has shown so much compassion towards her and my family. She always has a smile on her face. Whenever we use the call light she’s there. She answers our questions with knowledge. We are so thankful she crossed our paths.”

The DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award nominations submitted for Zoe Hackett, RN included “Zoe is an excellent and much caring RN. I worked with her in the hospital setting for many years. She is very patient and family oriented. She goes far and beyond the job description that is required of her,” “I first met Mrs. Zoe at the beginning of my career just before I graduated nursing school. She was the first one there to teach me what real bedside nursing was like and I’m glad that I was able to have that great first experience to start off my career in the right direction,” “I worked with Zoe since becoming a nurse and could not think of a better mentor. She provided excellent, professional care to all patients. Zoe was always very top notch and on top of all aspects of working the floor,” and “When I started working for CMMC, I was an LPN with no hospital experience. Zoe was very patient with me and willing to help me in any way possible. There was no task that Zoe was not willing to assist with whether it be dropping an NG tube or cleaning up stool that was from head to toe on the patient. Through the years, I became an RN and Zoe continued to teach me in my journey. Without her continuous encouragement I would not have been able to become the strong nurse that I am today.”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes.  Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease.  The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Said Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, “When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night. Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do.  The kind of work the nurses at Chicot Memorial Medical Center are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”

Said Chief Nursing Officer LaJuan Scales, “We are extremely fortunate that we have so many compassionate nurses at Chicot Memorial. I want to congratulate all the nominees and award recipients. The recognition given by receiving a DAISY Award goes beyond mere words of gratitude and will always be a token of their tireless dedication and compassion to their patients.”

About the DAISY Foundation

The DAISY Foundation is a not-for-profit organization, established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes, by members of his family.  Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. (DAISY is an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System.)  The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

Nurses may be nominated by patients, families, and colleagues.  The award recipient is chosen by a committee at Chicot Memorial Medical Center to receive The DAISY Award. Awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the Honoree’s colleagues, patients, and visitors.  Each Honoree receives a certificate commending her or him as an “Extraordinary Nurse.”  The certificate reads: “In deep appreciation of all you do, who you are, and the incredibly meaningful difference you make in the lives of so many people.”  Honorees also receive a DAISY Award pin and a beautiful and meaningful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe.

In addition to the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, the Foundation expresses gratitude to the nursing profession internationally in thousands of healthcare facilities and schools of nursing with recognition of Nurse-led Teams, Nurse Leaders, Nurses Advancing Health Equity, Nursing Ethics, Nursing Faculty, Nursing Students, Lifetime Achievement in Nursing and through the J. Patrick Barnes Grants for Nursing Research and Evidence-Based Practice Projects, Medical Mission Grants and their new Health Equity Grant programs.
